Chulu West & Annapurna
Chulu West is located on the northern side of Manang and the Annapurna range. It is a prominent peak in the Manang Mountain range, rising from the semi-arid flat lands of the Manang majestically.
If we talk about the Chulu west technically then it is harder than the other. Two high camps need to be setup and it would take longer than other climbs so obviously we will allow ourselves several days for our assault on the summit.
After preparations in Kathmandu, we travel by private vehicle to Besisahar to commence trekking anti-clockwise on the Annapurna Circuit.
We follow the main trail to Manang, walking first through the lush lowlands of the Marsyangdi River and noticing the landscape change as we turn behind the Annapurna range and enter the rain shadow zone.
A little further on at Letdar (4200m), we will seprate from the main track and head towards the Chulu Himal. Chulu West Base Camp (4700m) is in a narrow valley about 3 hours from Letdar, up a steep grassy slope. In here we will spend our time for resting getting acclimatized and become familiarized on climbing techniques and equipment which is most essential for on the successful ascent.
The first high camp will be at 5300m, and a second at 5650m. Summiting the mountain requires strong and special effort but beside this our biggest achievement would the the magnificent view of the Annapurna ranges, Manaslu (8163m), and the wild landscape of Tibet.
On descent, we return to the Circuit track at Letdar and then continue through the Thorung La (5416m) to reach Jomsom.
From Jomsom we will take flight back to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara on the same night we celebrate our concur.
